This spring, we wanted to highlight and appreciate the benefits of rice so we created a product using makgeolli lees.

What are makgeolli & makgeolli lees?

You might know makgeolli as a delicious Korean rice wine, enjoyed for centuries since the Joseon Dynasty. But did you know that this traditional drink holds the key to achieving radiant skin? Makgeolli lees, the rice particles leftover after fermentation, are packed with beneficial nutrients that can work wonders on your complexion. Inspired by this centuries-old Korean wisdom, we incorporated the essence of makgeolli lees into our new product: the Ground Rice and Honey Glow Mask. Experience a deeply hydrating and clarifying mask that will leave your skin looking radiant and more evenly toned.

Makgeolli brewers noticed that their hands became soft and clear after making makgeolli. in Korea, it is common knowledge that making and massaging the skin with makgeolli creates more beautiful skin. Science can back this up because makgeolli lees are packed with beneficial substances like kojic acid, known for its skin tone brightening effect, and galactomyces*, a renowned substance for moisturizing the skin. Unfortunately, makgeolli lees often gets thrown away because the process of preserving and upcycling makgeolli lees is quite involved. However, we learned how we could leverage its potential and partnered with a model and makgeolli enthusiast, Stefanie Michova. After developing the product over 4 months, we finally reached the best texture and formula for our new rice mask that will replenish and lighten all of our Beauties.

Nowadays, modern science has proven that makgeolli lees are also effective for improving dull skin by clearing dead skin cells and impurities from the skin. Makgeolli lees may also control melanin production*, a key contributor to uneven skin tone, to bring out the natural glow to your fatigued skin and prevent dark spots. Known for its powerful antioxidant benefits for thousands of years, the combination of rice and honey makes the mask even more effective for any type of skin.
